This question has probably been asked a million times, but a quick search found no clear postings so I"ll go ahead and ask this question ... sorry if it is a repeat. I have a 1955 Oliver Super 55, serial number 23-490. On the nameplate, there is also a Spec Number 15-0005. Can anyone decipher what this spec number means? Also, the transmission code is 518 ... what does this mean? |

| I prefer the 518 with its super-slow first gear. You can let her run in first, climb off, open a gate, close it behind her and get back on, all at an easy pace.
I should probably add, please don't try this at home ;-) |

| | Specification number = first two digits, "15" is the model (early Super 55, changes made, number changed to 25). Third digit "0" is row crop. Fourth digit "0' is narrow front axle. Fifth digit is tire equipment & engine fuel, "5" is 12.4 x 28 on a diesel tractor. Yes Serial number 23 490 is a 1955 build. 518 is the transmission code, "5" is the family or Super 55, All Super 55 & 550 powertrain codes begin with "5". "18" is the early build, 14/53 Differential driveshaft to ring gear, later code is 19. |

| b a star, Great information! Just what I was looking to learn! Thanks. Is it known what changes were made when the 15 was changed to 25? |

| Well in simple terms the 25 started in 1957. Changes include key start, 12 volt for the gas models, a redesigned hydraulic system, Oliver in the fenders and a519 transmission code for starter. |
