What holds the middle shaft with the gears. I got both nuts off and it won't come out. I haven't got agressive with it because I didn't want to mess up the bearings.

I pull this tractor in the hotrod class, it has a small block chevy motor with an automatic. This is the first problem I've had with the rearend. It broke the input shaft and the bearing holder under the shifter cover. I bought another rearend but 3rd gear is missing teeth so I need to change it.

Thanks for the help.

Oliver had a tool to do that. It was a forcing screw & nut plus a plate that you placed against the transmission wall. We made a "tool" out of a broken PTO shaft put an offset in it and we would place it against the end of the shaft and put someone else on the other end with a six pound sledge. The tool was quicker than the forcing screw. More questions?

The Oliver service manual covered all the models from the 66 through the 880 + the Super 55 & 550 tractor. I have seen C-D versions listed on E-bay. What do you need to know?
