So my 1850 is a 1000pto only, i need 540 do I found a salvage dual speed pto unit with a 1yr warranty for 1150$ but that's way more than what I want to spend. Is that a fair price? I have seen parts tractors sell for 1500-2000 and for a bitter I could get another that runs. What do you recommend? I really inlay need 540pto.

The single speed units in dual speed housings just have a snap ring that locks the shift collar in place. It's real easy to convert a single speed unit to the other speed you just need the lower 540 gear and about 3 hours the upper shaft all ready has the gear. The 540 gears are easy to find. It's almost as easy to convert to dual speed you need the shift rail and new seals. I've done several over the years for way less than what your looking at. I got parts to convert a unit from Panning brothers tractor parts in Gibbon, MN last year. I think he said they had a kit or so left. Or if you get into southern MN I'd swap you a single speed 540 for the 1000. good luck

If you only need a 540 do a search for one of those. Should save you some cash. No need to have a dual speed if you are not going to use all of its functions.

Ask the salvage yard what they want for the unit with no warranty and clean it up yourself. Or, get it on paper what exactly what they will cover on their warranty like clutch, bearings and etc. Salvage yard warranties usually mean they will swap you another unit that may be worse off than the first.
