Just restored a Oliver 70 and I"m having trouble keeping the engine running. As long as I spray gas into the breather of the carb. the tractor will run, but as soon as I stop spraying gas into the carb. it stops running. The carb. has been rebuilt with all new parts, but I"m still having problems keeping it running. The carb. is a Marvel carb..
I was told that I have a valve problem so I tested the psi on each cylinder and each cylinder is testing between 120 to 125 psi so I don"t believe that is the problem. If any one has any suggestions on what might be the problem please post. Thanks, Randy

Just want to let you know that I put a different carb. on and I got the tractor running. Now I have another problem. The rear main seal leaks so now I can pull the engine again and replace it. Should have done that when I had it out once but I didn't. Dumb, Stupied, and should have knowen better.

Well it is a fuel problem. Now do you have a vacuum gauge? You might want to take a vacuum gauge and take a reading and see what you have. Is this an early or late 70 (serial number) They only used about 10 different carburetors from start of production to the end. Send me an e mail address and I will send you a chart on how to read the vacuum gauge.

No, I do not have a vacuum gauge but when I hand choke it, it sucks my hand tight to the breather and will leave a red mark on my hand so it seems to have real good sucktion. I'm going to put a different carb. on it and see if that will work and if it does then I know that it is the carb.. I will let you know if it work or not. Thanks for responding, Randy
