I was mowing hay with the 1850 and took a 15 minute break for both of us to cool off. Came back after the break to raise the cutter up to check oil levels in the mower gear boxes and the arms wouldnt raise, nor the hydraulic cylinder and steering was gone. No leakage found. Long story short it's dumping it to to the tranny and I mean fast. I have several olivers 50 series but never seen a seal or gasket go that fast ( i checked the hyd. oil level before start up and it was normal, never uses hardly any hyd. oil. After this incident I added more oil to it and the pump works as it should, arms raise, remotes work. No external leaks til it started coming out of the shifter hole. MY QUESTION.... What caused sudden loss of fluid? I'm thinking the seal on the lever for the three point but i've seen the pump seals throw oil to the tranny too but not at such a high rate. nothing is rattling so I think I have a good pump. Its works great as as long as it has oil to pump. What do ya'll think may be the problem here. |

| Hi just thought I might add that my 2-105 was doing that and the clutch pack seal was blown. I am in the process of repowering it with a 5.9 cummins this week. I have been searching the forums for part numbers on bell housings, engine mounts and fywheels. |

| I had a guy tell me that if it wasent leaking to bad you could use 303 hyd. oil in both so when they mix it wont hurt anything ??? |

| Trouble is,if it's a pump seal,it doesn't just leak a little. If it's the seal on the draft control leaking a little, you're probably OK if it doesn't get too over full. I think you're going to start having trouble with seals if you let it get overfull for very long. |

| I changed mine because it was getting close to 500 hours anyway, but when I put it back together I had the gears standing on each other, so the new oils got mixed before I even started it.
I drained 5 gallons out of the rear, then I put some of it back in till it came out the check plug. I still have about 3 gallons of mixed oil left that I'll use on chains and things like that.

| Would it be harmful to keep using the hyd/gear oil mix in the transmission that results from the pump seal going out or should I drain and replace with fresh gear oil?Had the same problem with my 1650. |

| I sure don't want to be responsible for somebody else screwing something up,but I'll just say I didn't change mine. But then I'm tighter than a bulls azz in fly season,so if you're not comfortable with it,changing it might be a good idea. |

| Thats exactly what my 1600 did a few months ago. I finally changed it out last week. The seal on the pump was very obviously blown out. i will give this caution... make sure the gears mesh together.mine stood on each other the first time I put it together so I got to do it twice.

| Must be something up with the 1850s lately. My 1850D is leaking into the rear end as well. I have not had my 1850 but about a month. Mine started after puttimg the loader on. I jinxed myself by making the comment that it was the first time I bought a tractor and the trailer floor was free from oil when I got home. Seems all I do is fix leaks. Good luck with yours. Stu. |

| Mine did the same thing when I was planting corn. Two things can cause it. Front seal in the pump blows and lets the oil blow out through the bearing that the pump drive gear sits behind, and there's a seal around the draft control rod that comes right up through the bottom of the pan. Mine happened to be the pump seal, and yes the pump still worked normal,I just had to keep stopping and draining the oil off the rear end and pouring it back in the hydraulic reservior to get finished up planting. That draft control rod isn't in the smaller 50 series. It's external on the 1550 and 1650. It comes right up behind the flow divider. When I got the pump out of mine,I could see by looking real close that the seal was blown. I replaced the one on the draft control rod too though while I had it apart. |
