My Dad just picked up a fairly straight 1555 diesel that we were told developed some bad noises. The previous owner fished a piece of piston skirt out of the oil fill hole so I know it will need at least one piston and possibly a sleeve. My first question is are the sleeves and pistons the same out of any other engine? Possibly something older.. 77 or 88?
My other question is this tractor is kind of unique, for our area anyhow. It has 18.4-30 rear tires, and 7.50-18 fronts with the non adjustable axle. It also has manual steering, no over-under, but three point with remotes. Would this be considered a utility? Thanks in advance...

It actually is a Cockshutt, red in color but flaking off to show green underneath... I am in western New York, about an hour or so from Ontario, Canada so that would make sense. I dont know the history of how it wound up here though. The guy we got it from bought it at a consignment auction about 15 years ago about an hour south of here..

Piston wise it will take the same as a 550/660/. Be carefull when ordering a replacement. There have been a lot of statements on here about breakage of the 3-5/8 bore sleeves. Me I would go with a kit from Agco or Clevite. I would also go one piece pin bushings and have the engine ballanced especially if you have 2 different brands of sleeves & pistons if you are only going to do the "one cylinder overhaul".I would call that a standard tractor. Also check the head over very carefully. Find me on the HPOCA site if you have more questions.
