Super 88 Diesel

A friend of mine gave me a Super 88 diesel (he's a JD collector). It's set in a shed for the last 4 years without being ran. He said it ran good, but was hard to start, had to pull it to start it. I would like get it running, but any suggestions or checks I should make before I turn the engine over would be appreciated. I've read posts on this subject in the past and I believe there is some checks to be made to the injection pump to prevent possible damage. It has a Bosch pump. Serial number is 24 808 - 801 = 1955 with std. trans?
I believe the 1955's had red wheels is this correct? (repainted clover white)

O. K. You need to make sure the plunger in the injection is free. Send me a phone number and I will discuss it. Green wheels but it is the standard ring & pinion.

the 1955's were green all around it wasn't until 57 i believe red wheels were introduced. also you should pull against your friend so he sees what a mistake he made in getting rid of that 88 diesel.

I have what I believe is an Oliver 88 gas. We had a 77 on the farm. This is larger tin work, no hydraulic pump on floor as most had. Also the pto engagement handle is on the left instead of the right as our 77 was.
There is no nameplate on firewall or even rivet holes where 1 was originally. I am wondering if this originally could have been a kit tractor intended for Europe after WWII.
Are the cylinders from front to back 1 to 6? I have the firing order but I'm not sure of the starting point. Thanks for any help. Tom
