Tell me the good and bad with these tractors. Going to look at one tomorrow with FEL, new rears, good fronts, sheetmetal is straight, runs, no leaks.

Older gentleman is asking $4k. Was power steering standard?

Thanks

Power steering was optional. Does it have it? How about a swinging drawbar and a remote hydraulic valve. If it has all of those, the price might be right up against the top,but within reason.

As far as the bad about them, nothing really. Everything about them was pretty much bullet proof. There was a little bit of an issue with the PTO discs warping so the PTO wanted to run on,but that's common and probably not a big enough problem to make it worth fixing.

Not sure about the drawbar or remote hydralic valve, but it does have a 3pt. and Oliver front end loader. with hydralic bucket. No power steering.

Great tractor, no regrets from me. Purchased one to replace my 8n years ago. Best power to weight ratio in its size. Very reliable and easy to work on. Can drive it in the yard and not leave ruts.
Search this forumn an you'll find lots of good info. READ the attached article. Can be found on the left under Research and Info, Articles, Maint and mech.
4k is a fair price if in good shape.

Went to look at the tractor. It has spin out rims, the hyd. remote, and the swinging drawbar. Paint is great ( been stored inside) tires are great as well. The only fault, is the loader bucket needs repair on the leading edge.

No power steering though, which would make it tough to manuever with the FEL on it in a tight spot.

Sooo....do you want it or not? Hard to find one with all those options. Somebody else will want a whack at it if you don't take it.
We had one without power steering, had a loader on it. Had never had one with power steering at the time,so didn't know any different.

Well the older gentleman, that has it, is backpeddling now that there is interest shown in the tractor. It's his last tractor, and he's finding it tough to let it go.

Sounds like you found a nice tractor, probably nice original condition. Those are sometimes worth more than a restored version. Those are all the options that one would want. As for the power steering, as long as you are in motion, or have an empty bucket, it won't matter much. I think we all realize how hard it is to get rid of something we really like, but really don't 'need' anymore.
Check back with him in person in a few days. Be polite and considerate, assure him it will have a good home, parked indoors, well maintained, put to use, etc..
Uncle bought an 8n an older fellow, he had tears in his eyes when it left the yard. A year or so later we painted it all up, took a picture of it, framed it, and went over to give it to him. You should have seen his eyes light up.
Good luck.

Well the mans wife called this morning and said to get over here and make her an offer, she was selling the tractors today. The older Gentleman meet me when I got there and we started talking. Not only did I get the Oliver I bought an Allis CA with a woods belly mower from him too.

Good for you. I have the external remote and swinging drawbar. No PS or loader. Wheel weights are nice on these in my opinion if you are doing anything like blowing snow or plowing.

It has the rear wheel weights that are mounted to the inside of the rim. Didn't see those, until I go it home.
