I got just a glimpse of it today. I will try to check more closely on it next weekend. Is there such a thing or just a later add on.

oliver never came out with a front wheel assist until the b series of the 18&1900. that is an after market add on. i saw an 880 with one on and thought that would be one neat tractor to drive around with. now a 550 with one would be really neat.

Get your facts straight! Send me an address and I will send you a picture on an Oliver doument that introduces the new Oliver 18 & 1900 series FWA tractors. The document is for late A not B series tractors. The picture is of a 1900 A series.

I think Ollie Schaefer made an 880 FWA John. Haven't seen it,but it's supposed to be made up from a bunch of parts from an industrial 1600 or 1650 or something. We were at a show in Indiana one time and they said he was on his way with it but we didn't stick around long enough to see it.

As far as a 550,if it was spotted from a distance,my guess would be probably a 1255 or similar.

I should have learned a long time ago that when you tell someone that something can't be done they will work day and night to prove you wrong.

Anyway I am going to say it, you can't make a 550 into a MFWD! Here is a scan of the drivetrain.  How are you going to get power from the differential drive shaft down into a drop box to drive the front axle?

I'd love to see a pic of that.
I'd be curious of how the drivetrain would be incorporated into the frame of the 550. Not a lot of room there. The castings would definitely take a lot of machining.

I saw it mentioned on an earlier post. It is a sweet looking rig. With the extra 8, I like to think of it as the most well kept secret on the site!
