660 tractor governor

I have and Oliver 660 that has a weight on the governor with a sheared pin. How do I get the governor weights and shaft assembly out? Do I need to take the entire front plate of motor off? My dad worked on it before and thinks the shaft just pulls out from the gear but that doesn't seem right to me. This is supposed to be the same governor as some of the 550 tractors. or at least I was told.

The governor shaft and gear come out as an assembly. You may have to rotate it a bit to slide it out past the cam gear. No need to take the timing cover off. Hope this helps.
