Better Gear Shift Boot?

1970-1655

Who has the best gear shift boot for the 1655, 1855? I bought 2 new ones back in the spring and installed them after I was done with the tractors for a few months. Went to use one yesterday and the boots are both completely dry rotted and torn. These have been sitting inside, unused for 5 months. They were bought from a reputable dealer, not some flea market.

One of the guys I work with said he took some of the liquid/paste like electrical tape that you can buy at wal-mart or other places as well and he put some on the cracks of his shift boot and that the liquid electrical tape has stayed flexible and has been on it for 3 years. Probably not what you would want for a restoration but would be fine for its work clothes.

The boot on my 1650D cracked and I used a half a tube of "Ultra Black" silicone gasket material
to "rebuild" it. I was planning on getting a new
one before long, but maybe the rough looking rebuild
will last longer than a new one. I put the year
round cab back on so its not as critical as it was on an outside tractor.

I find that a toilet plunger with a stainlees steel clamp works great at keeping the rain out and doesn't crack.
