I am looking for a good head for a 1600 diesel. Are there any other Oliver models that use the same head? Thanks

First of all late model 1600 diesels use a different head than the early models, so how about an engine & serial number. Let me guess you found cracks. Now does it leak coolant? I would worry if I took a head off of a 1600 and it was not cracked. Have you had the head pressure tested?

This a late model 1600. When the engine was running it sounded like it was firing out the exhaust. We pulled the exhaust manifold off and we were getting fire coming out one cylinder. After pulling the injector out inside the injector hole where the copper ring sits there was damage on the shoulder and when looking further in where the tip sits the casting in the hole is gone on one side. I have never had an energy cell out but they are not long enough are they to reach across to the injector? I am going to pull the head off in the morning.

I have repaired several of the Oliver (and Deere ) direct injection heads by boring them out and installing a sleeve. That idea would also work on your head. Send me a P M via the HPOCA forum and we can talk about it. J.

I took the head today to the machine shop and they said it was junk. It has a crack right up through an exhast seat and the injector hole is non repairable. I guess I am on the hunt for a good used diesel head.
