Clutch Installation - Oliver 1800 - Not working

We are in the middle of completing the engine rebuild on our Oliver 1800 C.

Yesterday we finished putting the rocker arms and valve cover on, then we installed a new clutch, pto damper, thrust bearing, and a new coupler sprocket nut. We then dropped the engine in the tub.

Today I headed to the shopt and started attaching the remainer of the items needed. When I got to the clutch there was a problem. When I attached the clutch pedal to the actuator arm the pedal was bottomed out. I removed the connector and tried to move the clutch manually and could not.

What did I do wrong? We are almost done with this project and need to be DONE. Any suggestions that might help us?

With a new clutch, you'll have to loosen the lock nut and adjust the clevis on the rod to the right length. If you still can't get it,I think the 3 arms on the pressure plate are adjustable. You'll have to take it back out to do that though.(I think, unless it has an inspection cover like an 1850 has.)

One thing to check is if the clutch fork is install the right way. I don't think it's reversible. If you didn't take it off the shaft, that won't be your problem, but if you did, you might want to check it out.

Back up here: Do you have a 12 inch clutch or the opptional 13 inch clutch? Also did you change the pilot bearing, that is a must. Does the arm on your 1800 have 1 or 2 holes? You need to put a pipe on that arm to see if it releases. How much free travel do you have. Are you still over north of FT Wayne?

First thing I would do is take a deep breath and
do not panic. One time we needed an 1850 the next day and I forgot to put a soft plug in the
oil gallery on the back of the engine. It was a long night.
But, back to the subject on hand. I would do the
previously mentioned ideas. One, check clevis adjustment. Two, use a pipe to try to disengage the clutch. If no luck, the clutch release fork, might be in backwards. Four, clutch plate maybe backwards. Five, check the measurement the three
pressure plate fingers. Measurement is in the book. If you have to get this far, and don't have the measurement. Post, and we can email it to you.
A really outside possibility is you aren't trying to match a button clutch plate to a fiber
pressure plate accidently.

RRlund had the right answer. I just needed to shorten the clutch release rod.

I replaced the clutch and fiber plate with the identical one that was on there with a replacement from Fort Wayne Clutch so it should be the right one.
