310 oil level

I have a 310 gas out of an 1855 and according to my manuals that I have it is supposed to hold either 8 or 9 quarts of oil. I have right at 7 in it now and its right at the full mark. Just to verify, it does have the canister with the sock filter. Has any one heard of this motor only holding 7 quarts? Just worried that the guy that had it before could have swapped out dip sticks or something and I dont have enough oil in it. I realize that the oil pickup rests on the bottom of the oil pan, and that it is definately covered with oil. May be over thinking it, but figured I would ask the panel. Thanks for any help.

I know there were 2 different length dip sticks for the 1800 (283 cubic inch) engines. Also the oil pump has a floating screen and is not at the bottom of the pan. I would need to check an 1850 parts book but the pans are the same.

why are there 2 dipsticks and what should I go by? The one that is in the motor or the volume listed in the manual? Thanks for your help

All my 310's have the 12 qt pan. I sure wouldn't run a 310 short on oil if it is getting any heavy duty or hard pulling.
