Bit the bullet on a 2-85

Put a deposit on an old work horse today. 2-85 with about 6000 hrs. Runs well, hydraulic shift works. A few cracks in tires. Anything specific to this model I need to watch for?
Its going to be our main hay tractor now. With this and the 550 we'll have the right tools for the job.

sounds like a nice haying operation. will it run a baler and a haybine/discbine? They are a nice tractor and it is a tractor that rides bigger than it is. In other words, driving it you will feel like youre driving a 100 hp plus tractor. but the perkins is a good solid engine.

Yeah it will definitely run my baler and haybine. I've run them with the 550 so far but the hydraulics are not quite enough on the 550 for the haybine. Just too slow.
The 2-85 does ride like a big tractor. I had a 1650 before and used a 1655 for haying and its a lot like them but beefier. Probably going to throw a loader on it for moving round bales. I like the perkins motor too. This one runs well and seems to start easy. Everybody I know that has a perkins says that about them. That's important here in NY.

it should start great. our perkins engine onour massey starts great and its 80 hp. I think you have a good tractor the only thing is if the people who owned it before you took care of it. that can make a big difference.

Got the tractor delivered 2 saturdays ago. Really like it so far. Has a few leaks and will need new rubber in a few years. Father in law plowed a food plot with it. 3241 plow then used a small 6-ft disc I guess. Wish I had seen it. I'm guessing he had enough power :D
