2-70 white injection pump timing

hi just finshed doing some work on the engine of my 2-70 white.Can anyone tell me the injection pump timing I set it for 4 degrees btdc but upon trying to start it, it will just sit there making lots of smoke not even wanting to kick thanks for any answers
 
If you did cylinder head work, did you by chance check the valve recession?? This is extremely critical on these engines.
Second, are you sure you timed it on the compression stroke and not the exhaust stroke??
 
4 degrees BTDC is a book value and starting point. After it is running, I usually move the
pump to wherever it runs best.
If I have a frustrating time starting, like you
are I hook a chain on it and try towing it to a
start. No start check timing for 180 degrees off
(but it should start 180 degrees off). Then check
injectors for cracking, leaking, and pattern.
Check compression and the list goes on.
 
yeah I think i may have found my problem I removed #1 injector to make sure i was on the compression stroke for timing and as I was winding it over by hand with my finger over the hole I noticed there was not a whole lot of pressure forming so with the valves in the closed position I shot some air into the cylinder and noticed alot to be by passing and coming out the exhaust checked the other cylinders and same thing
 
Certainly, if you have leaky valves, you will not get it started without pulling it, if at all.
Were the valves worked on?
Were the timing gears tampered with? 'cause bent valves can easily result with improper valve timing....
Anyhow, it sounds like you are on the right track.
