Easiest Oliver 50 series to work on?

Looking for an ongoing long term project 50 series oliver to work on. I am leaning towards the 1850 model because of the Perkins diesel. Also because it is a nice sized tractor(not too big or small) to work on. Any thoughts?

the 1850 is a good tractor to work on but the perkins motor is the pits to work on if you have to overhaul it, ive done one and thats enough.

I have rebuilt more than one of the 354 perkins in massey tractors. If the 354 in the 1850 is no different than the MF's, it would not scare me, biggest challenge was getting the dry sleeves out.

Never done one myself but a common trick is to run a bead of weld down the liner. They are then easy to remove ( as long as not TOO much penetration!

Were using five 1850's overhauls they are no more difficult than most engines. (The new generation JD's are the real pits. Splitting, so many crank bearing changes and replacement bearing choices always waiting for the next right part.)
We've an extra wide rolling "A"frame in the shop with 2 chainfalls on it. For a couple handicrappers like us the 1850 is the easiest tractor there is to work on. Parts are readily available, via over night UPS delivery. The whole tractor layout makes it an all day pleasure to field-work. Just the right size and transmission options for haying.
Economical purchase prices and economical operating costs.
We've bigger and smaller tractors. The 1855D is my favorite.

They're all about the same to work on. Like everybody says with the 1850 Perkins though, they're a dry sleeve,so a little tougher. All the Waukeshas are wet sleeve. Not a dimes worth of difference in anything else. All have a frame so you don't have to split them to do anything. As far as access to working on any of the componants, all the same.
