Ive recently bought a horse drawn plow and need help with paint and handle placement. on the boot of the plow it reads 13, SB OLIVER and on the depth set it reeds No. 11. The plow still has some traces of Yellow but im not sure if Yellow was an option for oliver at the time. There is a logo that says KING on the foot aswell. If you can identify the model, years fabricated, and color please post. If you have a pic or any literature or any imput at all will be helpful.

In the Hart-Parr Oliver book it shows a picture of a 1932 Oliver No. 11 horse drawn sulky plow. It also has a side view that shows handle placement. If you'd like I can try to scan it.

There is also a restored one in the implement photo section. Just search for Oliver 11

Travis, I will try to answer some of your questions.

Your plow (model 13) was one of the Oliver #40 series of horse plows. That series of plows were built for 50 years, maybe longer. They were built with steel or a wood beams. Also, they were built with left hand or right hand bottoms. Most were painted red with some black on the moldboards, etc. The lettering was yellow. As far as the handles go, they mount different on the wood beam plows verses the steel beam models. The way you ask your question, it sounds like you have a wood beam plow. If so, there is a bracket that goes between the handles and bolts up to the back of the wood beam.

The model "A" plow is smaller than the 40 series, but most of the above information also applys.

Thank you for replying It isnt a wood beam its cast iorn and are the words stamped into the boot yellow or is there an "OLIVER" written down the beam? I am going to place the oliver logo on the molderboard though but i think thats white? And do you know if the handles were painted? again thank you for replying

Travis, I don't know what you mean when you say "boot". Are you talking about the plow point? More than likely the word OLIVER is cast into the backside of the moldboard. The word Oliver that was painted on the front side was only for advertising purposes. When the farmer used the plow, the paint would soon wear off. The handles should be painted red, and the model number painted yellow. Example: THE OLIVER 13 R SB.
