I am looking at buying a white 140, not familiar with
this series of tractor can anyone give me any items to check on this tractor? Currently have a
2-105 and 2-135, have been good tractors for me.
 
I have a White 120 tractor. It seems like the
140 has an aftercooled engine. I also have a
couple 135's. The shifter on the console is
easier for the hired help to use. Also, the
Cummins 5.9 engine has been reliable. The only
problem is my engine seemed a little doggy.
A few thousand hours ago we turned the pump up
a little. The 120 now easily pulls 5-18 plow
in ungodly heavy clay.
 
both the 105 and the 135 are good tractors. But a 140 should easily outdo them both. A 140 has a cummins in it. The cab on it is real nice.
 
A 140 White is very similar to a 2-135. Same style rear, trans, and PTO with an upgraded cab. Still has the 3spd like the 2-135. Main difference is the engine being a Cummins like the others said. You won't be disapointed with it. Check everything as you normally would any other.
 
You"ll love the cab, ride, shifting, and all those features, but you"ll find that the 2-135 makes better horsepower than a 140 although the cummins is a better motor. If you want to really notice a power difference, then you should consider a 160 or 170.
 
About the only "bad" thing about these (and it's the same with the 2-135's) is the four bolts that hold the planetary to the drive gear in the o/u tend to work loose over time. There's no real way to know what condition those fasteners are inside the o/u so you kinda roll the dice.

Other than that, a 140 is basically the pinnacle of farm tractors IMHO. It only would be better if it had a true powershift. If you search through Nebraska tractor test results, there are not many other tractors/engines that are more fuel efficient that the white/Cummins.
