550 leaking fluid from pto output shaft

I have an oil leak on my 550 that is getting progressively worse. The oil is coming from the rear pto shaft, but not from the lip seal that attaches to the very rear of the transmission housing. The oil is actually coming directly from the geared output shaft. I have looked at the parts diagram for the 550 and it looks like there is an o ring on the pto shaft located inside the transmission housing. Am I on the right track here? If so, can it be repaired without removing the seat, hydraulic housing, etc.?

Thanks,
Tom

Yes you can pull the PTO shaft, you need to pull the whole thing though, bearing retainer & all and release it from the PTO clutch pack.
There is 1 small little .98 cent O ring in there , but you need to purchase a new spring roll pin when you replace it too. Replace it with a cheap 1/4 or 5/16 roll pin and you will be repeating the process.

thanks, Farmritch.

Another dumb question, but to remove the entire pto shaft, I guess I will have to remove the allen set screw at the clutch pack?

Tom

Tom,
Yes that"s what I was trying to say
I set the clutch before loosening, it makes it easier to put back
