88 Hydraulic Pump

I'm rebuilding my Oliver 88 Hyd pump and have a few questions. How much clearance should there be between the gears and the plates? Do the gears need to be pressed in or should they just drop in? Or do I have to heat the plates in hot oil and then assemble it together? And how tight should the bolts be holding the pump together?

You should have 0.003” of total side clearance between the gear thickness and the center plate thickness. I would heat the gears up to fit the shafts. Remember that the seals ride on that shaft so try not to mark it up. The bolts should be torque to 34ft.Lbs. and then tie wired together. Be sure to install the new needle bearings 3/32” below the face of the housing to clear the snap-ring.
