We have a once a year weighted tractor pull. This tractor is going to weigh aroung 20,000. We always pull in first gear. My question is that it has a hydro power that I do not want to tear up. Is the under just a strong as the direct? I will not be shifting I just want to start off right. I am not worried about the motor pulling down, just don't want to tear up the hydro power up. Does it have clutches in the under and ditect or just in the under?

Clutches in direct and over, under is what you'd have if your hydra pressure was gone. If you aren't planning to shift I don't know if it makes a lot of difference which speed you have it in, the unit is built pretty good for what it was made, they used that small 3 speed in all the tractors until the transmission upgrade in the mid to late 70s. My 2-150 uses it, have had no problems. How high is the 1900 running? If you have it tweaked for all kinds of wild power, well you have a different situation. My 2 cents
