550 safety switch

I am rewiring my 550 and when hooking the wires back to the safety switch, the "normally closed" terminal is somewhat stripped. If I hook the wire to the ignition side to the "normally open" terminal will that mean I will not have to step on the clutch to start the tractor?

First, don't wire around the safety switch or recommend it to anyone else.  You will remember that it is wired around, however some else might not know.  The safety switch is wired in series in the starting circuit between the start terminal on the key switch and the switch on the starter.  With the clutch pedal "up" or in the engaged position the safety switch is "open" preventing current flow.  With the clutch pedal "down" or in the disengaged position the safety switch is "closed" and current can now flow to the switch on the starter.

I know what you mean for safety purposes. The reason I ask is for trouble shooting an electrical issue I'm having. The threads on the "normally closed" terminal of the safety switch are buggered up so I was asking for a temporary fix until I get the wiring figured out.
