1655 Rod Bushing Issues

1970-1655

I have read a lot of the posts about the 50 series rod bushing issues. Were these fixed by the time the 55 series came out? I do not want to tear it down to check if the issue was fixed. But I do not want to inspect the rods as they exit new holes in the block either.

What can be done for strong reliable rods for these? I am in the early stages of building a bigger engine for "farm stock" with a "modest" increase in power.

In the past, i have seen a few of these engines in 1650-1850 tractors running NTPA super stock class so someone out there might have some pointers.

Thanks

The 55 series uses the same two piece bushings as the 50 series. Updates are a single piece bushing and 12 point rod bolts. I think if you look down the dipstick hole you can tell if the rod bolts are 6 or 12 point. If they are 6, it likely has the two piece bushing as well. They held up better in the 283 than the 310.
