1850 diesel steering problem

My 1966 1850 has a steering problem. When driving straight, I have to turn the wheel either to the left or right more than is normally needed to keep the tractor in line. In 1/4 mile of driving straight, the steering wheel ends up being 3/4 of a turn off of where it started.

I suspect that the oil is by-passing somewhere internally. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

Thanks

If you still have the old saginaw unit you will have to live with it as parts are hard to come by,when it croaks replace it with char-lynn unit pricey from agco.look for steering unit out of old gleaner or massey combine or 170-190 allis tractors then get 55 series steering wheel and shaft and bracket make hydraulic hoses.Scott

The problem is probably in the hydraulic control valves under the seat. Remove the seat and the flow divider block. There are cartridges in each of the two blocks that need to be replaced. It is the same flow divider used in several different models so there are usually lots at a tractor wrecker.
