1800 C Steering Issues - Needing some help

Well I finally had the time to replace the broken hydraulic line that broke while plowing last fall. I use the AGCO upgrade of a hose and line and refilled the resevoir so I thought I was good to go. Well.........

When I fired up the tractor to test the steering I had NO STEERING. I turned the wheel completely in each direction several times but still no response. The only movement was at the very end of the steering cycle when you 'hit' the max, but that was not actually moving the wheel.

I have the sheet metal off already since I have to replace the valve cover gasket and am preparing to get to the steering cylinder. Might I have 'stripped' the gears in the cylinder last fall? What am I looking at to rebuild/replace this cylinder?

I have the Saginaw steering motor and cylinder.

Don't know how the "C" is versus the 50 series but there is a vertical shaft that comes off the steering motor to the tie rod center arm for the 50/55 series. One of those broke on my neighbor years ago, he could not find anything obviously wrong with the hydraulic portion of the system. Must been a fairly common problem as Central Tractor offered a new replacement years ago for that.

What hydraulic line broke? Is your tractor wide front or narrow? If it's a wide front, look under the front where the tie rods hook on and have someone turn the wheel with the motor running. See if the shaft in the center of the yoke turns. You shouldn't have to, but you might try to crack one of the lines coming from the steering unit and make sure you have oil flowing thru it. Jack the front end up and see if the wheels turn with no weight on them. The 2nd 1850 that I bought had the yoke the tie rods fasten to broke and it wouldn't steer. Replaced the yoke(about $120) and that fixed it. Could possibly be the flow divider on the hydraulic unit, but I would check out the front end first. Chris
