1800 Plowing - First time

We purchased our Oliver 1800 several years ago to use as a haying tractor. With our move back home to Indiana we are adding to our operation. I am renting two farms for row crops as well as planting several hay fields for neighbors.

We have several fields athat were in corn or sod that needed turned to get ready for next spring. Unfortunately I did not locate a plow earlier so I borrowed an IH 540 from a friend and plowed under 6 acres of corn stalks yesterday. It has been 20 years since I ran a plow, what a hoot it was!!!! Now if I would have bought that $10 set of clamp on duals at the September consignment auction!

$10 for some duals? Man that's a deal!!! Even if you needed some hardware that would've been a deal.

I bought a set of clamp-ons for our 1855 a few years ago for $300 if I remember right. Just this summer after putting new tires on our 18, we took the old bald tires off the duals and had the rims sandblasted and painted, then put the old tires form the 18 on. Spent about another $350 but now they look decent and will have some grip. Haven't had them on yet since we swapped tires though.

I used our 1600 for a little bit of plowing this fall too. Was a blast using it. It's been about 25 years since it's been on a plow. A year or 2 before my time. I like plowing with the 1855 too. Have a 565 3-16 and a 546 4-16, and they both plow great.

I enjoy plowing also. My little farm is all Hel ground, so I can't plow any of it. I joined a antique tractor club about a hour away so I can go there and plow during the show. It's fun to watch guys who have no clue what they are doing. Chris
