I am looking to add a chisel plow to our implement line-up. How many shanks can a strong 1800 pull? We can pull an 18' disk with no problems in 4 Direct with our machine.

Depending on how hard your ground is--7 or 8 shank should be good. I think 10 HP per shank was rule of thumb. 1800 is a pretty heavy tractor and about 75-80 HP?

5 shank if you have clay or hills. A brillion 5 shank with wide points keeps both our 2-85 and 1850 working pretty hard in western PA clay/loam.
