Well I got to the last coat of paint on my 51 8N and it s blue. I thought they were all red and cream were there any blue ones?

As UD said no blue. Repainted by PO or maybe by ford dealer special.

Yes, and some dealers painted 2N's in stock red and med grey when the 8N was released to push old inventory. The theory was a buyer just wanted the newer red and grey tractor. I don't know if a service bulletin exists on this or not. Pretty deceptive practice so I'm thinking Ford would not issue one and may have been solely up to the dealers.

Just looking at you're tractor, who told you it was a 51? It has 2N wheels and hubs front and rear, side dist? I think you need to check the serial # on the engine.3 Speed trans? All 8N's were 4.Just an observation.

Must be that not all dealers participated in that program. I see some names missing from the list who were long time Ford dealers. Also, it is possible with some tractors that they never received a factory match in terms of repaint. I remember during the 1970's quite a number of N series tractors painted a generic blue. Some people did not like the gray color at all and others were hippies that wanted a color that reflected what they saw in the sky. I can remember some places that had hippy type owners and a blue N was a staple. I guess the red of an IH or the green of a JD did not bother them so much.

The bottom coat of paint on my 49 8N is blue also. I figure someone stripped it down at some point and gave it the blue treatment. then some else put it back to red. It is part of the fun of these things in my opinion, quite a lot has happened to these tractors over 60+ years, it adds to the story.

WORKED AT A FORD DEALERSHIP IN THE EARLY 70'S OWNED BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY' AND ALL FOR TRACTORS TRADED IN THAT WHERE RED & GRAY OR JUST GRAY HAD TO BE PAINTED BLUE THE DEAL WAS FORD WANTED EVERYONE TO SEE THE NEW BLUE COLOR

Good looking tractor. It may have an 8N engine, but you have a 9N or 2N tractor. Only one brake pedal on the right side.

That's all I have of the ad Steve. Do you think maybe your Dad's 39 got a coat of blue paint?

Kirk

Here's my blue 8n painted by PO. Painting it blue must have added some extra power cause you can plainly see I can now pull a 3 bottom plow.

Never any N's painted blue at the factory. My uncles and grandpa painted their early 9N blue and I never knew why. My one uncle worked at the Rouge Plant and now the yare all dead so I have no idea why it was painted blue. Maybe they just tired of the plain, dull battleship grey. I'm currently restoring it and it is still with blue paint but I will put it back to the original Ford dark Grey when I'm done...

Just another data point - mine was blue when I bought it, and some parts had no red under the blue (some parts also had at least five coats of paint, some of which looked like latex housepaint).

Picked it up used from a guy I used to work with. I agree it's useful around the farm and is registered for the road in case I want to take a load to the dump or scrap yard. Beats hooking up the big trailer and good for tight spots.
