Whats missing

My gear shifter comes up about 2 inches and
it is hard to find the gears took plate off
and not sure what's missing or broke

Wow! That's one of the least-worn covers I've seen.
Look at how square the corners are on it!
One of mine had a broken spring and badly worn edges.
The spring wouldn't let the shifter move far enough to get into 1st or third.
Owned by a little old lady, only driven on Sundays, blah, blah, blah. ;)

Looks like.that c shaped keeper that hold the spring above the plate is missing. Hmmm, better check in the bottom of the transmission case. Boy, that is one of the most frustrating things to do, get that c clip in the right position. One of them 3 handed twelve finger deals.
 
As long as we are beating this horse does anyone have a good top they want to sell. Mine is a corroded sloppy POS. I have looked a them on ebay but you can never be sure of what you are getting.
 
Thanks for the help I can see what is wrong with mine I appreciate the pics. If I can't find that spring retainer where can I get one I seen the spring on this site but not the retainer thanks again
 
Yes you could have a Sherman with a Howard in a Jub The later
model Howard had a plate that went inbetween the trans and the
rear housing. You don't see many around
I have the Howard with the step down Sherman in my 2n. It can
really go in slo-mo.

I found one on ebay years ago but it took awhile because I also wanted to get one with the threaded screw on cap and not the twist on type .
