Nice day here in Michigan, pushing 50 degrees.
So I decided it would be a good day to go out and start all the
tractors that still have batteries in them. Figured it would be
easier on them at ~50 than when it was below freezing.

So far, 4 for 4 on the Fords. Had to put a 6V charger on the one
Farmall that still has a battery in it. It's only in there because
it's a PITA to take it out. Don't use the tractor in the winter.
After that it started right up though. Good running tractor.

Turned around and it's 3:00. Spent the last 6 hours playing
with tractors and didn't even notice. I'll call it a good day! :)

hey! from the "why didn't *I* think of that" files.

outstanding idea. thank u, sir :)

A nap? Now there's a novel idea! Maybe if I had some of this. ;)

I always hook up chargers overnight before starting tractors in the spring, no sense starting with down batteries. I actually do three rounds on all batteries, once when I shut then down, one about new year, then one in spring.

I pull all the batteries and put them in the heated shop.
Then rotate a tender on them. Except for the tractors I use in the
winter and that one Farmall that takes two people to get the 6V
battery out of. It usually has a battery tender on it but I moved it.

You're running out of daylight. Chop! Chop!

Yes, a fabulous day! I drove in dense fog to McD at 5:30am for my daily coffee ration. Then, back home, I brought a 2N with a
Sherman step-up out of the garage that I have been working on. Drove it around a bit and back into the garage to adjust the
brakes. Thought I would take it to the car wash, NOT. Yard was too soft to get to my trailer. I cut ruts about 4" deep for about
50ft and had to back out. So, I took my muddy truck to the car wash. Later wife and I went out to dinner and I stopped at the car
wash with her car. After a really nice prime rib dinner for $11.95 with a cold beer, called it a day. It was still 48 degrees
when we got home.

Sounds like you had a great day John! Glad to hear it!
What's better than tractors and loved ones?
I cut a few ruts in the yard too. I'll fix 'em later. ;)

Nice post.
I put the battery on the charger this week
and brought that up to par.
Thought about starting the tractor yesterday
but got busy and then had friends over in
the afternoon so didn't get to it.
We haven't had much snow here so I haven't
plowed all year. Tractor hasn't been started
since early December.

I just disconnect the cables. Should I store them in the shop?
We have mild winters here in NC.

Now the important question. Do you store the batteries on concrete? Or is that an old wives tale? Right or wrong I store mine on wood in stead of concrete.

"Should I store them in the shop?"

A fully charged battery won't freeze in normal weather.
I store the ones I'm not using in the shop so I will walk by
them every day and not forget to swap the tenders around.
I don't get out to the other barn as much in the winter.

The concrete question comes up every now and then.
I believe it is an old wives tale, or, it may have been true for
older technology batteries. Either way, my batteries are lined
up along a wooden bench. Simply because its a convenient,
out of the way place for storage and charging.

Yep we had a little break in the weather here also so I decided to grade the road before the next storm. I fired up both tractors and I was able to get some seat time and get the road smoothed out again. I do enjoy it.
48 8N and a 3 cyl 2000.

Its bad on the concrete for sure I never see a battery suffer just the concrete. Put a piece of wood are plywood twine the bat and the floor to protect the floor.
