What was the finish on the old .040 sleeves? polished smooth or a good cross hatch like a cast iron one? Did they wear faster or slower than a cast?

The shop manual says normal cross hatch.

We had a 1948 8N and it didn't get new sleeves and piston etc until 1960 and we did a lot of row croping and hay making with it for the first 10 years. The sleeves were nearly cut through at the top of the bore. I put .040 cast iron sleeves back in it. It was sold at our dealership in about 1961 for $600. I have run that tractor all night pulling a Seico disc turning ploy. The exhaust pipe and back part of the manifold would get so hot I could follow the furrow from the red glow when I turned the lights off.
