ford 8n lift

okay guys the other week I ask about my lift on my 8n wouldn't work. had time today, took the side cover off, and fluid was bad, really thin and yellowish replaced fluid and futher checking I found the lift would go up about half way and stop . I then took a wooden handle and placed to the back of lift rod. when I gently pried it toward the front of tractor the lift went all the way up. did this several times what can it be? didn't exactly know what to look for in there.any ideas thanks Gary

linkage out of adjustment or bent or cam follower pin worn (if problem only in position ctrl mode). valve must go all the way against pump housing, as shown:

This pic shows how bad the control rod was bent in mine before fixing it. I didn't bother trying to straighten it, I just purchased a nice straight used on and it worked. You may need a new cam follower pin too. You'll probably have to remove that top cover.

With the tractor NOT running, reach in through the inspection plate and feel down the control rod. You'll feel it in the cup as in the picture above. Move your quadrant control lever up to the top. You should feel the control valve (the cupped part in the picture) move up against the tractor casting as in JMOR's picture. If it doesn't move all the way, you'll need to remove that top cover and fix it.
