if all you want is position control, you don't need to rebuild the lift cover. Just buy a jig from Zane Sherman.

I can't find a link to his website, but someone else will be along soon with it.

Yes, the Zane Thang would give you position control.
You could do it by swapping the top cover from an 8N onto your 2N but I think you would also need the 8N hyd pump to go with it.
Zane Thang is much cheaper and easier.

I have a Zane Thang on my 45 2N. Works well - easy to install - costs less that rebuilding your hydraulics. UD is correct; you would also need to switch the pump.

The 9N/2N and 8N hydraulic systems are two different animals. You just can't swap out top covers. The pump is slightly different and the control linkage is completely different. The only thing the same is the piston, ram, and cylinder and even that has a slight modification for the 8N. I believe the top covers have different bolt hole patterns as well. Best to just purchase a Zane Thang -see LINK below, or get an 8N.

In my case, I have just the opposite. I have an 8N with probably a 2N top cover on it. There is no small lever for position / draft control. It has the single 8N control rod inside and it is constantly in position control mode. It can't be switch to draft mode, which is fine for me as I use no ground engaging implements.

I'm just saying that the top covers do have the same bolt patterns and will interchange.

Although I have no personal experience with it, I vote with the others, buy the Zang Thang.

I am another that enjoys my ZaneThang.
Simply bolt it on and go to work.
A few hand tools and no heavy parts involved.

(quoted from post at 08:22:09 01/08/17) what is the difference between the zane thang and the jig adjuster beside 30 bucks.

The jig adjuster is made for the 8N. It is used to adjust the parts inside the top cover to make sure everything will work right when you put the top cover back on the tractor.

The Zane Thang is an external device that gives the 2N or 9N position control to do what the position control does on the 8N.

It is a simple installation on the outside of the tractor. I never needed one since I have an 8N but have only heard great things about it. I did however purchase Zanes jig adjuster. It works.
