Governor question

Is the governor timed to anything or is it just a gear driven governor driving off the crank gear. I want to remove mine clean it up and repaint it and put it back on.

It's gear driven. The two bolts to remove it are different lengths. Take notice to replace them the same way.

Skip,Is the governor timed to anything or is it just a gear driven governor driving off the crank gear.
No, the governor is not timed and it runs off the camshaft gear.Just remember to replace the gasket and use a little gasket sealer and that the short bolt goes back in the top hole and don't bow the housing over tightening the bolts.

Thanks Den I knew it was gear driven I just wanted to be sure it wasn't timed to anything on the engine. I will be sure to replace the bolts correctly. I just wanted to clean it up and clean the block behind it and put it back.

Since you are removing the unit entirely, why not think about a complete rebuild. They sell rebuild kits with new balls and gasket. Might help prolong life another 60 years...
