NAA Project Update-Finally!

After a year and a half of working on her when I could, doing, redoing, ordering parts, parts again aaaand parts again :), I took advantage of time off over the holidays ( and relatively warm temperatures) to get the engine rebuild on the NAA wrapped up. Initial start up was last night.

Didn't go bad, started right up and ran smooth, a little vibration but should be able to tweak that when I get the timing light on it and maybe a new cap and rotor. Started to run hot after about 10 minutes and had to shut down. Fresh rebuilt radiator, new thermostat and new water pump, suspicion that the thermostat might be in backwards ????.

The only other initial bug is the proof meter. Anybody know why a brand-new proof meter would show correct idle but only about 1250 rpm's at wide open throttle?

Many, many, many thanks for all you gents for the help, ideas, and information. This is a great group.

Bad proof meter?

Stop on governor not adjusted correctly?

You should confirm that the new proof meter is indicating correctly before you start to adjust anything. You'll need a tachometer for that.

The company I bought it from shows two proof meters, one for an 8N and one for the NAA. I contacted the company to see if they possibly sent me the wrong one, or if they could tell me where on the meter, if any, the part number was marked. Of course they said it was "impossible" for them to have sent or packaged the wrong part.

I haven't confirmed with another tach yet, but listening to the engine it sounds like it has full range of throttle. Sure sounds higher than 1250 RPM's.
