I was piddlin around and drove over a small ditch
and lost fire dug in and found a busted rotor button
any ideas as to why appreciate any help

The front axle pivoted enough to whack the distributor cap out of place, the rotor contacted it and broke.

Likely, the front axle pin and bushing are worn and/or the radius rods may be bent.

Front or side distributor?

If it's a front distributor, the cause is as Bob said.

Notice the distance between the cap & the axle. That distance decreases as the pivot pin & bushing wear.

You can weld a stop on the right front side of the axle support to prevent the axle from coming up high enough to hit the distributor.

Just adding too, if front mount distributor like Bruce shows, cap nipples #2 and #4 usually will be busted hence proving axle is hitting due to worn kingpin and bushing. Your statement, "...I drove over a small ditch then the problems started..." confirms this theory too.

Front distributor and the worn king pin was the culprit much thanks 🙏 and I will be adding stops for now until I tear her down and rebuild thanks again
