Hub/Axle Specifications

Getting an NAA that is new to me ready for bush hogging hopefully this coming summer. I am working on the rear axle. The tractor is on a jack stand on the left side and the right wheel is on the ground. After the left wheel was removed, I noticed that was a little play between the axle and the hub. I could wiggle the hub with my hands about .050 inches from side to side. The hub could be mover radially with my hands about .0100 inches in both forward and reverse directions. Upon getting the hub off, the was a worn area towards the outside end of the axle about .050 inches deep. The teeth in the hub also appeared worn. The thick washer behind the axle nut had a wear pattern on it about .025 inches made by the hub rubbing on it. The axle nut was tight but just pinched the large washer against the shoulder on the axle and was not tight against the hub. The splines of the hub were behind the shoulder of the axle. Plan to replace both the hub and axle. Is this reasonable ?
The right side is a little different. The splines on the hub stick out past the shoulder on the axle. The large washer bears against the hub where the axle nut is tightened. There is no wear marks on the large washer from the hub. However when I was loosening the axle nut I could feel some plat radially between the hub and axle if I turner the axle nut both forward and backwards. Looking at the axle end with the nut remover, there is a little space between the splines on the hub and the axle. I think I can move the hub radially until the hub splines hit the splines on the axle. After the left side is rebuilt, I plan to take the wheel off and do additional looking. I would appreciate any suggestions on what should be done with the right assembly. Do I need to replace anything ? What additional analysis do I need to do ?
I sincerely appreciate any suggestions and thank you for your help.

May just need the hub. I'd get a new hub and try it on the old axle before ordering an axle. As you have probably seen, hubs are priced reasonably, while axles are expensive.

Can the hub be tightened further to remove all play? Could try the new hub you are getting on that side for evaluation.

Others have probably seen some of the same farmerized repairs that I've seen. I'm not trying to demean farmers. They did what they could to keep working.
That said. I seen oversize washers that slide over the axle spline to provide clamping pressure. Problem is, inside of hub bottoms against the seal retainer. OK, grind off the inner end of the hub. Yup, and now the brake drum rubs against the brake shoes.
Or, how about some shims being pushed into the splines and tighten the nut. May last a little while. Or, weld the hub and nut together. I'm sure there are others.
The axle splines are harder than the hub. If a new hub is installed before a lot of wear occurs to the shaft, you should be good to go for years.
Get a new hub and do as suggested below.
While in there, install all new seals. Overall, it will save you time and money.

John in Mich & jimtrs,
Many thanks for your thoughful replys. I appreciate your help.
The interesting thing is that the hub on the right side was tight. The nut was pushing the large washer firmly against the hub and the washer did not appear to hit the shoulder on the axle. However when I loosened the nut with considerable effort I thought I could feel the axle turn a little when I reversed the direction of the load. When I look at the axle to hub joint from the nut end, there appears to be a little space between the splines on the axle and the splines on the hub.
I could not see any worn areas on the axle like I saw on the left side.
Once the left side is done, plan to jack up the right side, remove the tire and then the hub for a look see. Will also try your suggestion of putting on a new hub and tightening up to see what it does. Will also do the same thing with the old hub to see if there is any movement. However; with the wheel off, it will be hard to put a lot of load because the whole unit will turn. May have to put the tire back on and put the weight on the tire so I can put a good load on the nut in both directions.

Will let you know what I find.
Thanks Again.
