Proof meters again

Been searching the archives but haven't found an answer. My 8n has a working proof meter which was newly installed by the previous owner. Problem is that it racks up the hours at least twice as fast as it should be. Anyone know why this would be?

Twice as fast may be a bad meter. Usually they are slow.
They measure hours based on time ran at a specific RPM.
Any other speed is not accurate by design.

Brad.........most of the complaints about the proofmeter is the tachometer needle being unsteady or not working NOT the hour meter working. So unless yer being inspected by a sphincterly challenged originality authority, I wouldn't sweat it. The ONLY other use fer the hour meter is to determine when to change the oil. Me? I'd just change it every fall so the acid don't eat the bearings. Simple, eh? ........HTH, the amazed Dell

For the 8N meter that is 1580 RPM - or so it says on the face ;-)

TOH

Another possibility is that you have an NAA proofmeter instead of the 8N proofmeter. I believe this error will result in reading too high by factor of 1.6

that must be why mine is so slow to rack up hours
