Rocker holes ?

What are the two outer ears in the rear housing used for? Mine look to be wallowed out really badly. The big center rocker casting is in good shape but the outers are really out of round.

Skip..........thems fer the jingle-jangle bars that hold sicle-bar mower level when mowing wheat or barley......HTH, the tired Dell

That explains it this tractor had a bunch of sickle bar mower attachments still on it when I got it. They are out back in the junk pile now.

I don't completely agree with that description of their use.
But, that's what usually happens to the sickle mower attachments.
That, or they go to the scrap pile with the tractor.
Then the poor guy who gets the mower searches for them.
Dig them out of the scrap pile and offer to sell them to someone
who needs them. They will thank you for it.

I have all the brackets I need for mine Skip.
If no one sees this and wants them right now, I'll pay the
shipping to my place and store them until someone does.
I will then give them away for shipping to the person who does.
I just hate to see them get trashed.

I will try to get some pics and send them to you, someone had welded all kinds of parts and brackets to this poor little tractor. The holes in the outer ears are so wallowed out I would be afraid to try and use them for anything even with a bushing in them for fear of them breaking off

I posted on here several yrs. ago that I had 2 mower brackets anyone could have free just pay shipping, I got no reply's. I believe they are still behind the wood shed but under the snow now. One is a Detroit yata yata? and the other is a Dearborn one left the other right. Mine are the ones that attach on a angle to the Bell housing and the rear of the transmission. I believe they are in good shape.

The two outer holes on the 8N were used for the rear mounted manure loader. They also had dual extra cyclinders hoked to the lift arms from a frame that replaced the bottom drawbar. The lift lifted 1 and 1 1/2' with all 3 cyclinders and would pick the front wheels off the ground. Then chains would catch and swing the load outward and up (sometime would have to help big loads. Wished Dads wasn't scrapped. cleaned dads barnyard plus my brothers. I almost teaped the tractor over backwards, with a full load and going up a hill. Hit hydraulic lever fast. Allway put a szck of sand over the hood after that
