I lived in northern New Mexico from '97-'03. I drove to the Taos Ski Basin one weekend, took a look at the bunny hill, and turned around and went home. I decided to stick with flatlander cross country skiing.

Beautiful! If you have time, take the "Taos High Road" out of Rancho de Taos towards Penasco, then continue along through Trampas and Truchas down to Pojoaque. You'll be following the primary defense line the Spanish used against the raiding Comanche from the east side of the Sangres. It's like stepping into a different world. The drive is stunning, dominated by the three Truchas peaks, which are 2nd, 3rd, and 4th highest in the state. As you enter the descent into Pojoaque, you'll have a beautiful view of the valley, the Jemez Mountains, and Los Alamos to your west.

Yes the peaks are beautiful.
I drove the high road to Taos a few years back.
Up here I feel closer to the Lord, it's God's time not my time.
Get to clear the head, forget the news, spend time with the wife and kid.
The wife really enjoyed the snowshoeing to the heated Yurts and back, about a 4 mi adventure through the thick and up to some higher elevations for some views.
Daughter and I did some cross-country and got to bond some.
Well, back to the downhill, got to go it alone, too treacherous for the wife and kid, man I love it!
