Unusual problem

Happy New Year all! I am a long time member but I rarely post. I find most of the info via the archives. I read every current post and value the info and experience I get from this forum. I have a 51 8n my FIL bought for me in 1978. It had been abused, I was young and new to country living so my inexperience did not help. I have a Ford 4000 diesel I use for most everyting. I have been working on the 8n lately and replaced the front and rear tires and rims and had the sheet metal painted. About 25 years ago a gentleman rebuilt the tractor, (engine and lift). He replaced my rusted hood with a 9n hood. This 9n hood had been refitted with a thru the hood air cleaner so I have this hole in my hood because I still have the original 8n air cleaner which should be connected to a hole in the side of the hood but the hole isn't there. The gentleman who replaced the hood did not replace the air cleaner. I want to put something in that hole....My other tractor has a thru the hood air intake so I'm used to it. I can find very little information about this air cleaner except it appears this was a dealer installed option via a 'kit' provided thru Donaldson . I cannot find any air cleaner OEM or otherwise for sale. I have seen pictures but very little posted on this site. Can anyone help with any info on a replacement air cleaner?

My 1945 had this air intake when I bought it. I think you are correct about it being a dealer option. I purchased the same intake for another tractor that had the hole in the hood on ebay. I believe that is the only source. You could put a want to buy ad opn YT and the other forum. And you could put a want to buy ad in the N-News magazine. NComplete sells the round bulb that goes on the top of the tube.

I have a 9N/2N air cleaner. May have the through the hood
option too but I'll need to check on that to be sure.
I will do that tomorrow if you're interested.

Thanks for the response and thanks Royse for looking. The upper chamber of my 8n air cleaner is similar to an upside down cup with a hole in the side for air intake. The 1.75" ID central intake tube is in the floor of this chamber. If I can center a 1.75" hole in the top of the cannister, I should be directly over the central intake tube. If I can then insert/slide/shove/beat a pipe with 1.75" OD down thru my new hole to the central tube, I should be in business with a thru the hood air cleaner. The 1.75" ID intake tube cap can be purchased online. I am not a mechanic nor a fabricator but I think this is something I can do. I'll let you know how it turns out.

You're welcome. I think you would still want to close that hole
on the side where the funnel went through the side of the hood.

You might also check with John Smith and see if he has one.
Especially if that doesn't work. Here's a link.
