Time to replace my 30 year old steel floor jack. It is a MAC and has been great, but been leaking and seems so much heavier than it used to be. Gravity must be getting stronger.

Anybody buy an aluminum one they recommend. I am thinking a 2.5 or 3 ton.

Both my boys have new generation floor jacks with that one or two pump raise option, they like that function,

If I were to buy another floor jack I would certainly want that option,

My local Napa store has jacks for sale, do not know who makes them, but am sure they are probably made overseas,
I bought my last two floor jacks from Sears, but they appear to be on the way out, so I do not know about long term parts availability,

So who knows, it's a crap shoot in today's markets, buying something that last as long as a floor jack,

Safety tip: no matter what brand you buy, always use jack stands for your safety!!!!!!!!

It seems to me that some of the jacks today seem to be over rated, so I wouldn't get anything less than a 3 ton. I have had a couple of aluminum ones for several years
now and they still operate as they should. However they don't get used much either, so I don't know how they would hold up to continuous use or abuse.

just got my son a steel 3 ton floor jack at sears for Christmas. I have had one for about 30 years with no problems. sorry no experience with alum. but 3 ton would be a minimum for me.

I also have a 5hp tiller and a 5hp sno blower that I bought in 82. have yet to change the eng oil or gear oil in either one and they both run great. and yes they get used every year.

Well, if the NASCAR guys use them they MUST be good ! There is always a 'However', I suspect the NASCAR ones are VERY spendy. You might be able to find a used one of them, but would probly be 'tired'. A 5 ton unit for what you are looking for (your shop use) is likely the best choice. HTH AND Happy New Year. P.S. I have an old Armstrong long body 5 ton, that still works, but it leaks more juice than it is worth. Next trip to the scrapper !

I have a 3 ton rapid pump aluminum floor jack from Harbor Freight and it has never failed me in 2 years. I have a steel one for things like my 5000 Ford tractor or JD 410 backhoe but for my antique cars and small tractors I like it. What is really nice is that I can grab it with one hand and walk off with it without getting a hernia.

My dad bought a new floor jack about ten years a go. I can't remember the name but it was a name brand. it only lasted about five
years. It was already too old to get parts. He bought a NAPA brand. He has had at least three NAPA's since on warrenty.

The last floor Jack I bought a couple years ago is the best so far new stuff is not built to last very long. this one
is steel jack (heavy) 3 ton I got it at Harbor Freight,I figured I would only have to pick it up twice once to put in
my pickup truck, and once to take it out of the pickup and put it in the garage. The best part is the price with Harbor
Freight's coupon it was fifty bucks.

I carry around a lightweight aluminum "racing jack" in my S-10 Blazer, but have no issues with HD STEEL floor jacks at the shop.

You mention a steel jack being HEAVY, what are you doing with it, as weight would have no bearing, if just used at your shop or garage???

Have a old 3 ton Craftsman that's been years of great service but like yours seems to
be getting heavier the older it gets. Went to Harbor Freight and gont one of their
aluminum ones. Love it!! I've seen the same jacks with a different sticker on them in
catalogs such as Summit Racing and they are almost three times as much. For the
money you cant beat it.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I went an bought one at Harbor Freight. It weighs less than half of my old one, much easier to move around. I will let you know how it works out.
