OK, so I would like to begin restoring an 8N but am unsure of the serial number, It looks like 3N3307II, I am assuming that it is 8N330711 and is a 1950 manufacture. Could somebody please confirm this be for I begin spend a ton of money.

all you really need to know is that it is an 8n and the location of the distributor. Either a front mount or side mount distributor. they changed over in 1950. side mount dist tractors have the generator on the left, front mount, gen is on the right side.

Lester........congratulations, you have the braggin' rights to a 5-nipple side mount mfg'd early 1951. Ford changed from 4-nipple front mount to 5-nipple side mount at s/n 8N-263843. Last 8N was late 1952 at s/n 8N-35XXXX? (I've fergotten, duh?)........HTH, the amazed Dell

Well it wouldn't begin with a "3". FWIW: The 9N and 2N tractors ALL carried the 9N prefix in their serial numbers. They and the early 8Ns all had a 'star *' symbol stamped before and after the serial number that designated steel cylinder liners/sleeves. When FORD changed to the cast iron cylinder sleeves, the symbol became a diamond <> stamp to designate as such. Now, many fellas find their early tractors with steel sleeves cast iron have been switched to the cast iron ones and that is perfectly fine. That's one reason why you always wait until you get the block stripped down before ordering any new engine rebuild kits. Also, FORD used the letter "I" as numeral "1" in the hand stamped serial numbers and lower case letter "b' as the numeral"6" and the inverse of that as the numeral "9". It wasn't just the tractors, it was a FORD thing on cars and trucks too going way back before the N's were even around. So, is that what you're seeing?
