8N side-mount distributor position

I have 3 side-mount 8Ns. One has the distributor oil port and the number 1 plug wire cap nipple located 90 degrees clockwise from the positions of the other two distributors.

Is that normal? I've heard of distributors being installed 180 degrees off, but 90 degrees?

The one that appears 90 degrees clockwise from the other two starts easily and runs well. "If it ain't broke"...right?

I tried to post pictures.

I'd appreciate your wise feedback.

If you want it to look the same as the other two just move the wires around one hole around the cap and then turn the distributor 90%

I makes absolutely NO difference unless you are going to enter it in a snobbish originality show. The distributor can be installed and correctly timed in any one of four positions.

In other words, (as you have half figured out) if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

You know how many guys post here trying to get their distributor in a sort of position that will allow their tractor to even START?

Yours apparently RUNS and you want to muck with it???

I don't care how it looks as long as it operates properly. Can the distributor body be moved without affecting the timing?

hat is great! Now you know more than many.

Is anybody still making a new car these days that has a distributor?

TOH
on't know of one, but a beer says yes, since places such as Mexico and So America continued to make VW bugs for a decade + after the ROW stopped.
