cooling issue

This N had new water pump a year ago (see plenty of flow thru filler neck), radiator/block flushed, forward & reverse many times and multiple vinegar treatments over a period of couple years with some improvement, but still overheat temperatures when worked hard. Finally this IR photo shows the problem of about 1/3 of radiator plugged and doing nothing. P.S. that is alternator peeking out left side(of pix) of hood.

Well water/hard water used in it by chance?
I have extremely hard water here. Lots of lime/calcium build-up.
That has been the only argument that has ever made any sense
to me for using pre-mixed antifreeze. Although it is still cheaper
to buy full strength and mix it with distilled water many times.

Been look'N at getting a thermal imager what one did you use.

There is a thermal imager group on Facebook I am a member of but just a looker...

Seek Thermal ($300), Hobo, plugs into ipad or iphone & they have models for Android, too. As my image shows & as was pointed out in the SnapOn video, 'we don't need no stinkin volt or ammeter' to see a working alternator!!! Not even an idiot light!   :p

Years ago we would bring the engines up to thermostat opening and shut it down then run our hand over the core to feel for cool spots. Today it's tough enough to see the whole radiator let alone feel it. We use non-contact thermometers now. Infrared gives a much cleaner picture. I saw one a few years ago which was made by Fluke that had a nice screen. You just point and shoot. Guy said roofers use it to find cool spots, factories use them to find bearings going out in machinery etc. Good stuff there.

Flushing a radiator is a good practice, but of course the vinegar can't get into a tube that is blocked.

I had a hole in my radiator fixed at the shop
After repair he checked the flow (redneck method)

Set radiator on the floor placed his foot over the lower outlet, then he filled the radiator with water, removed his foot and watch as the water
gushed out of the bottom outlet,

The water flowed out hard and fast, he said it was an easy way to check for a clean radiator, if the water had just gurgle out then the radiator
was stopped up,

FLIR seams to be the hot pick for the guys in the group. $180 are so, no way I would buy a new Snap-on toy like that I will wait till there source has it for haft price  BTDT
