When was fender scripted added?

I've dug around in the archives and taken a look at Smith's Old Ford Tractor page. Seems there's some disagreement as to when the Ford script was added to the fenders. I've got a 1949, serial number 8N216874, that has the Ford script fenders. Do you all think they are correct? They look to be weathered the same as the rest of the sheet metal.

Thanks,
Rick L.

Thant's based on what the parts books say -"...after serial number xxxxxx..." Translated it means that was the target number set by engineering and based on predicted sales for the changeover. As was/is the case with any change, old part supplies are to be used up before the new ones released unless it was a safety issue or urgent revamp. There's always a +/- 20% allowed. That being said, often parts are changed by owners as needed so if a guy owns a 1948 8N with non-script fenders, and he needs new fenders, he may find a set of scripted ones from a scrap '51 or '52 and put them on. Just like swapping out engines. See it often...
