8N Ford Battery Drain

I have an early 8n Ford 6 volt system that I have replaced everything in the electrical circuit from the ignition to the points and everything in between. I cannot leave the battery connected with the ignition off as I am getting a drain from somewhere and the voltage regulator remains warm. any help would be greatly appreciated as I have connected everything and checked and double checked my connections with my wiring manual and the online wiring diagrams provided on this site.

The cut out in the v/r is sticking closed.
Smack it a few times with your hand. If that
doesn't work, pull the cover and dress the
points.

And if that doesn't work.......time for a
new v/r.

Hook a 6 volt bulb in line with your battery cable,
It should glow dim, when you smack the volt regulator, if it kicks out, your light should go off,

And or keep replacing parts until you find the battery drain

I would disconnect the battery each time you store the tractor, you do not want to burn it up,

Thanks for the feedback, I have smacked th VR a few times with no success or knowledge of and will just keep disconnecting until I order a new one. Went to tractor supply of which is a great one stop shop for everything 8n related. But damn they want $50 for a new VR and I seen one here on the site for $14 I think. Need some other body panels and parts to make the shipping not hurt so much.

(quoted from post at 20:45:57 11/27/16) i meant disconnecting the battery not the VR

Sometimes between winter and summer work, my tractor will sit for months without starting it. Usually once a year I'd have to put the charger / starter on it to get it started.

I purchased the battery disconnect shown below from Harbor Freight probably three years ago and have not had to charge the battery again.

Just a few turns of the green knob and your battery is disconnected.

If you have aworking amp meter, you will see the needle jump when the cutout relay opens, and if it does not the amp meter will reflect the discharge.
