hydraulic lift cover

Guys does anyone know where I can get a decent hydraulic lift cover for my 8-N, mine looks like someone left a 50lb bag of fertilizer on it for years. It is terribly corroded and pitted. The hydraulics work fine and the lift arms are in good shape but the top itself is just awful. Anyone have any ideas?

Paint and Bondo or jb weld might be best bet if it's otherwise in good working order, they are on eBay occasionally but not cheap usually

I thought about that but I don t want to just hide the damage, I would use lead rather than bondo or something like that. The studs that the seat spring bolts onto are gone and I am going to have to helicoil the threads anyway so if I have to pull it to do that I might as well try to find a good used lift cover.

Skip...........NO HELI-COILS ever!!! Use Keen-Zerts. Just normal hand held drill per size recommended and POUND the Keen-Zert in place. Will NEVER un-screw like heli-coils will. 2nd tip.......swipe the gasket with warm water sponge to relax the paper gasket. NO torn holes. As fer the rust, use "rust-mort", changes the rust to a BLACK organic finish that will NEVER rust again. Only a sphincterly challenged originality authority would challenge the re-painted castiron top cover. .........HTH, the amazed Dell

Well, it's not what it looks like on the outside, it is how it is on the inside that matters. You say it all works fine so why muck with it now. I'd wait until it's absolutely time to repair cylinder and piston before yanking it. BTW top covers are abundant at your local boneyard and the popular on-line auction sites...just my 2? worth...

I have to pull the top cover to drill out the holes where the seat spring studs were otherwise metal shavings will get into the hydraulic housing and as for the appearance of the housing well yep I m just that kind of person I guess.

Not necessarily, you can put a flow of low pressure air to the fill port or dipstick port, just enough to feel air coming out the hole semi quick, then drill away and all the chips will be blown up in your face, eye protection recommended. And don't use a helicoil they are weak and a hassle, get a solid threaded insert much stronger and easier

nope I have already checked that by pulling the side cover off and sliding a 3/32 aluminum tig welding wire down inside

Even with a Keen you still have to drill and tap the hole

Shoot me an email. I'm in S.E. Ohio and have 1 you can have if you want it. Note: Airport at Gallipolis, Ohio, Point Pleasant, WV, and Athens, Ohio are all about 20 miles from me. Keith
