The hinge for the gas cover opening broke.(Ford 8 n /48) Did anyone have this happen? Can one be purchased or did someone fabricate one? Thanks, Murray

They can be bought. YT sells them [b:3757bc22cc]here.[/b:3757bc22cc]
I never found a good way to rivet them on though.
I used stove bolts to hold them in place.

Time to invest in one of these. I had my doubts but it works real good and if you are repairing old tin well worth the $125 :D

I like cool tools TOH! Unfortunately it wouldn't fit where the
original rivets held the hinge to the hood. A manual riveter
wouldn't fit. :(

I took a quick look at that hinge - too thick to spot weld even if it would fit. Is the backside still obstructed once the hood is off??? Looks like a good spot for a nice neat MIG plug weld ;-)

If you took the hood off and the gas tank out of it...Maybe?

Get some soft rivets, a rivet gun (you can use an air chisel in a pinch) and a bucking bar (piece of steel). Should be a piece of cake.

FLAman has the solution but I would ad some to what he said: secure the hing with a pin clamp or bolt through one hole and place a peice of rubber the thickness being slightly thicker than the length of the stickout of the rivet between the pieces you are riveting and the bucking bar to compress the metal together while riveting.

I didn't try this. Have you actually been successful putting a hinge on this way without removing the hood and gas tank?
